Abraham Lincoln did more than any politician to bring the ideals of the Declaration of Independence into the US Constitution. To Lincoln, the Declaration was the foundation of the American Experiment. Its principles were key to his movement towards abolishing slavery. His road towards emancipation, however, has remarkable similarities to modern day politics.
